Summer haze, bone appetite, trivial pursuits

Posted by tim | Posted on 6:05 AM

This summer is starting out well, what with an abbreviated final class, a few drinks, and burritos the size and weight of a small child's head (or equally delicious microwaved and lemon curded pancakes). Thanks to our gracious hosts, even if Vincent left me with a Black Eyed Peas earworm some five hours later.

It's a well known factoid of life that people love trivia. And so:

1. Zimbabwe was once called what?
2. What is Super Grover's one weakness?
3.What was the former name of the Crayola color "Chestnut"?
4. In 2006, Gunter Grass shocked some by admitting to what?
5. Is Shaggy, in fact, truly boombastic?

Bonus:
True or false - in China, Chinese food is simply called food.

On your honor system not to use Google, Yahoo, Bing, Lycos, Webcrawler, whatever. First prize is wholly intangible kudos, to be awarded by me.

  1. 1. I don't know and I don't think it's right to make a smart assed comment.

    2. I never liked Grover, super or non-super. But, that being said, the only time I've ever seen him falter is during the Macy's Day Parade when he's flown into skyscrapers. So, I'm going to say his weakness is skyscrapers.

    3. Indian Red. (I know my Crayola colors. I always really loved Lemon Yellow and was sad when it was retired.)

    4. Wasn't he a Nazi who won a Nobel Prize? And wasn't Danzig involved somehow?

    5. He's clearly bombastic, but boombastic? That I'm not sure of.

ExC: I broke protocal and used Google Translate. Chinese food is called 中国食品 in Chinese.

But I think the best question of all is, why the hell was Tim up and posting at 6am??

  2. obviously up all weezing out

  3. The answers:

    1. Rhodesia. (Southern or Republic of.)
    2. I believe he is frightened of bunny rabbits. However, a quick search of Youtube is not confirming this.
    3. Indian Red indeed. Wikipedia informs me this is named after the red laterite soil in India, not the supposed color of Injun skin. Yet they were wary of causing offense.
    4. He was in the Waffen SS, conscripted at age 17. Somehow, some Germans find this shocking.
    5. He is boombastic. His song says so, and songs are missives from the heart.
Bonus: Correct. I would have also accepted 飯, 饭, or 食品.

As the contestant with the best and only correct answers, Molly wins.

And Vincent, yes, I was weezing beyond belief.
